A track record of coal mine development
NWP Crown Mountain Steelmaking Coal Project is proposed source of very high-quality coking coal in the Elk Valley of South-Eastern British Columbia, Canada.
The Project is located near the town of Sparwood, British Columbia, and two coking coal mines operated by Teck Resources Limited (Elkview and Line Creek).
Potential environmental interactions with the Project are considered in the design and planning of the Project and are subject to a rigorous regulatory process.
Engagement with Indigenous peoples, local communities, and stakeholders will help shape the Project and efforts to mitigate potential impacts.
The Project’s source control plan would produce water quality (and selenium levels) at or below the levels produced by active water treatment plants operating in the Elk Valley. The BC Government will require NWP to have a form of water treatment as a backup to meet the Best Achievable Technology Readiness requirements.
